DIY Canister Filter

Materials Needed:
Replacement Filters:
Once your prefabricated "sediment filter" expires you can cut away the filter material leaving you with a plastic core. Simply wrap this core with either poly-fill sheet or felt sheet. I secure the filter material with "kite string".
This canister filter is extremely effective and very versatile. It can be plumbed any way you desire, as a hang on, inline with your return pump, independently plumbed, with a bypass, etc...
I modified the filter housing with a drain valve for easier and less messy filter changes. I drilled a hole in the center on the bottom of the filter housing, threaded it, and installed a ball valve with a hose attached.
By installing a ball valve in the bottom-center of the housing it will ensure that the water that comes out has been filtered so it can be drained into your sump or dumped back into your tank.
