This Is a Standard Venturi

SEDRA Venturi

~ Euro-Reef Venturi For A SEDRA Pump~

After measuring the ID of the center of the Gen X venturi, I was pleased to find that it has approximately the same ID as 1/2" SCH 40 PVC!

DIY Barbed Fitting Venturi

Barbed Fitting approx 50¢

1" barbed fitting threaded into a GenX-2400 volute

Cut the barbed fitting to desired length

Cut barbed fitting threaded into a GenX-2400 volute

Drill hole for the 1/4" ID air line

Insert 1/4" ID air line into the new venturi

Venturi attached to the GenX-2400 volute

If you feel that the Venturi is not drawing enough air, use a different 1" barbed fitting but with a smaller barb.

DIY Venturi For A Recirculating Protein Skimmer

This is nothing fancy. I simply drilled a hole in the PVC elbow, used a 1/4" thread tap and screwed in a 1/4" barbed 90. I then cut away any of the barbed 90 that was protruding inside the PVC elbow to ensure a smooth interior.

DIY PVC Pipe Venturi

Ideal Products LLC www.sanitred.com Offers a 2-part  product called "Quick Patch". It is as fluid as water. Once mixed 50/50 it will cure in approx 1-2 min. Immediately after it is cured it can be tooled, drilled, threaded, etc... I happened to have some on hand so that's what was used. I'm sure any rigid product that will cure throughout its entire volume could work as well.

    One could use 'Machinable Wax':

The coolest part of this method is that anyone can make a Venturi of any size using just about anything!

Custom Venturi For Via Aqua Pump

With this venturi I simply converted an barbed inlet fitting that came with the Via Aqua pump into a venturi. This could be used with a smaller skimmer.

#1 #2 #3
#1 Via Aqua Pump and Stock Inlet Fitting
#2 Taped one end of the fitting to seal it. Poured the fitting full of Sani-Tred "Quick Patch" and allowed it to solidify (approx 2-3 min). Drilled a guide hole through the center and used a 'Step Drill Bit' to create the taper inside.

~ CONVERSION CALCULATOR ~
For those who use 'Flowmeters' to measure their air volume, I have created a calculator to convert schf to liters/min and liters/hr.
