DIY Venturi Silencer

How To Silence Any Venturi

This is what's called a 'Water Trap' which is typically used in the medical industry. This Water Trap is typically placed in-line with standard oxygen tubing/hose it typically lays on the floor horizontally and collects any excess moisture/condensation within the lines.

  • Attach either to any Venturi and it will make it almost completely dead silent.

  • This will not restrict the suction in any way if the ID of the inner silencer tubes are the same ID of the hose used to attach it to the venturi.

NOTE:

I have tried using many different types and sizes of chambers to find out what works best. So far I've found that the container should be thick and dense which makes it resistant to 'sound resonance'. A 2-liter pop bottle  resonated like a drum and failed miserably. SCH 40 or SCH 80 PVC would make a good silencer.

One can use a thin walled chamber, but would require some work to 'sound proof' it. I never liked the thought of packing polyfill or filter floss to muffle the sound as this can cause some restriction (maybe very little) and defeats the purpose of making the silencer a 'passive unit' (absolutely no restriction).
